The hottest IT skills for 2023 – even in a recession

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” wrote Charles Dickens in his 1859 novel “A Tale of Two Cities.” If he’d been writing today, that statement could very much apply to today’s IT personnel and hiring landscape.  For many of the hundreds of thousands who’ve been laid off by tech companies recently, this might well be considered the worst of times — especially with a recession looming. Yet there are plenty among them, and others in the workforce, who could consider this the best of times. Why? Because they possess the most in-demand skillsets and certifications. Despite the layoffs, cutbacks, tightening pursestrings, and general doom and gloom presented in the media, these IT professionals can look forward to higher pay, plenty of offers, perpetual headhunting inquiries and even the occasional bidding war for their talents. Below are some of the hottest skills and certifications in IT, in no particular order.  Filling the IT skills gap Firs...

3 Primo Cloud Gigs in 2023

The question I get asked most often besides, “What is cloud computing?” is “What career path should I take in cloud computing?” I get it. Like almost everyone in the world, you know that the cloud job market is on fire right now. You want to strike while the iron is hot. The explosion of pandemic-driven cloud computing deployments and businesses that moved too fast to the cloud created a perfect storm. Most enterprises now realize they must fix many architectural and implementation mistakes, as well as keep pace with the rapid growth of multicloud and more complex cloud computing systems. For many enterprises, the ROI for cloud computing is nowhere to be found. Instead, complexity continues to drive up costs and risks. Both need to be mitigated with sound planning and good architecture. The rush to the cloud and the cloud skills shortage that soon followed resulted in many cloud jobs being filled by less-than-qualified candidates. It’s still happening. Be aware that many enterpri...

Why Cybersecurity Teams Need Ruthless Prioritization And How To Achieve It

As co-founder & CEO of uno.ai, Shashank leads a team of world-class engineers building an expert security analyst—not a tool for one! The only way cybersecurity teams can effectively and efficiently thwart threats, understand unfolding attacks and piece together possible data leaks is through ruthless prioritization. You heard it right. It's about doing fewer things well and getting deeper into it. Without a thorough understanding, chances of success are minimal, if any. How do you know what's important? As a cybersecurity leader, you're constantly looking at emerging threats, possible evidence of compromise or attack and a growing number of vulnerabilities. You have alerts and notifications popping up at you from multiple systems. You're tired, fatigued and mostly in nonstop firefighting mode. The alerts and notifications get you as far as a summarized view of some isolated data or evidence of possible anomalous activity. That leads to more investigation...

How Do You Manage Cybersecurity With Employees Across the Globe? Here's Your Answer.

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Cybersecurity is a $60 billion industry, and it continues to grow year over year. Most companies are careful to take extreme precautions to keep their sensitive data, and that of their employees, protected. But when you combine the rise of remote work over the last decade with a global pandemic, it throws a real monkey wrench into an otherwise well-oiled machine. According to Statista, data breaches within the U.S. (where they also happen to be the most frequent and most expensive) cost an average of $8.6 million — enough to bring your business to a screeching halt. So, how do you keep your proprietary and private information safe? We'll find out, but first, why are remote companies much more susceptible to cybersecurity threats and breaches? + Unsecured Wi-Fi. When remote employees work from anywhere, they really do work from anywhere. That might mean a coworking space with secure Wi-Fi, but it might also mea...

What are the Focus Areas for CIOs to Better Align IT with Business Goals

© Provided by The Financial Express Although most companies are aware of the opportunity that cloud offers, many are struggling to capture the full value With technology becoming the driving force for large incumbent businesses, as it has been for startups, the role of chief information officers (CIOs) is evolving significantly. The CIOs need to make the leap from tech leader to business driver, according to a blogpost by Aamer Baig, senior partner, McKinsey & Company Chicago. The actions they take in the next 12 months will largely determine whether their business can meet its aspirations, Baig added. He has identified six key areas that can help CIOs better align IT with business goals. It is important for CIOs to know their customers, along with the technology, the report added. While the product and sales team meet with customers at many companies, IT gets the requirements for products and services that are a by-product of those interactions. "Without a deeper com...

Current and aspiring cybersecurity professionals named cloud security, data analysis and coding/programming as the top three most important skills to possess if you’re looking to join the cyber workforce today. Those findings came from a new survey-based research report from the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, or (ISC)². For its “Cybersecurity Career Pursuers Study,” the non-profit organization polled 1,024 cybersecurity pros across the U.S. and Canada, along with 1,010 cybersecurity jobseekers looking to land their first position.
