Cisco's Hybrid Work Index Shows Just Half of People Speak in Meetings

Eighteen months into the COVID-19 pandemic, just about everyone who works in front of a screen has experienced some degree of "Zoom fatigue." What's worse, all of those videoconferences don't always add up to true collaboration, a new study confirms.  According to Cisco's new Hybrid Work Index, more than 61 million meetings take place globally every month. Yet, in any one of them, only 48% of participants are likely to speak. The lack of participation speaks to the need for a broader range of collaboration tools, including the sort of asynchronous meeting products that vendors like Cisco, Slack and Zoom are rolling out.  The Hybrid Work Index, which Cisco plans to release quarterly, draws on millions of aggregated and anonymized customer data points from Cisco's collaboration (Webex), networking (Meraki), internet visibility (ThousandEyes) and security (Talos, Duo, Umbrella) platforms. The data is supplemented by third-party research surveying over 39,0...

Three Popular Remote Work Myths To Leave Behind In 2021

By Josh Kohlbach, CEO and founder of Rymera Web Co, the makers of Wholesale Suite, the No. 1 WooCommerce wholesale solution. Gone are the days when you might think that remote work is not a real thing. The pandemic has very much proved that it's possible to get your work done with equal efficiency even without stepping into your office every day. A survey conducted by PWC shows that remote working during the pandemic has been an overwhelming success for both employees and employers.  Another report published by BBC after surveying 4,700 knowledge workers found that the majority of these workers don't want to return to the old way of working. And 72% of these workers said that they wanted a hybrid remote-office model in the post-Covid-19 world. All of this is a clear indication that there'll be a massive shift in the way companies will operate and their employees will work in the post-pandemic era. So it's about time that you prepare yourself to start lookin...

Buckingham’s Hartman on Pros and Cons of Remote Work

As president of Buckingham Strategic Wealth, Wendy Hartman has learned a lot over the past year about herself, her company and the overall financial services industry. Kicking off the opening session at the InvestmentNews Women Adviser Summit on Thursday morning, Hartman described 2020 as a “transformative year,” while admitting that the ongoing fallout from the global pandemic still represents a moving target for the financial planning industry. On the now familiar concept of working from home, Hartman said Buckingham’s policies are in a near constant state of change and are an extreme contrast from just a year ago. “Working from home is an ever-evolving topic,” she said. “We’re looking at what a hybrid approach looks like, whether we might need a different office space, and whether we can be location-agnostic.” Hartman said her $16.2 billion Clayton, Missouri-based advisory firm, which has more than 40 offices, could consider an “expanded talent pool” if location was not a f...

Post-Pandemic, Most Americans Who Can Work From Home Want to Keep Doing So, a Pew Report Says

Most Americans now teleworking from home want to keep doing so, with more than half saying they would work remotely after the pandemic, a new Pew Research Center report finds.  The national survey of U.S. adults reveals that while the coronavirus may have changed the location of our jobs — whether in an office or from home — it hasn’t significantly reshaped our work duties and culture for a majority of employed adults.  “Another third said they’d want to work from home some of the time. A very small share want to go back to the office full-time,” said Juliana Horowitz, associate director of social trends research at Pew Research Center and one of the coauthors.  As for meeting on web platforms, “a majority see that as a good substitute for in-person contact,” Horowitz said. “We don’t see ‘Zoom fatigue’ in our survey.” Videoconferencing and webinar fatigue showed up among an estimated 37% of those surveyed, she said.  Among workers who remained in the same job but sh...
